I began my career as a public servant working in various departments for the City of Detroit at the age of 18 years old. This opportunity and experience later guided me to become a Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy for over ten years. While working as a Sheriff, I attended Madonna University, receiving my bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in Criminal Justice. I continued my education by attending Schoolcraft College Police Academy and became a certified Police Officer. Working for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department helped me get more involved in my community and create safer environments for families. I have attended Bloomberg Harvard University for city leadership and furnished a certificate in grant writing. In 2017, the City of Eastpointe elected me as the first African American council member and, later, in 2019, the first African American mayor. My greatest accomplishment is being a mother of twin daughters, Kameron and Kayden (13). My children are the ones who inspired me to be the woman I am today.
I believe I can do more at the State level. Our children can be more advanced in language and literary skills by improving our education system. Health Equity for efficient healthcare for all by building partnerships, better policies, and programming. A plan of action to keep our top resource, our water, clean by less dumping and more advanced infrastructure. I want our state to have more economic stability by creating strong Michigan-based products and businesses
