Issues in the district

New school

The Monongalia County school board is asking the state school building authority (SBA) for nearly $11 million of the $16 million needed to build a new elementary school in the district. The board is looking at replacing 96-year-old Suncrest Primary Elementary, which is in need of upgrades and overpopulated. The land for the new school has already been secured and the district administration supports the decision. Schools across the state have asked for more than $100 million in funding for similar projects from the SBA. The SBA has said it only has $45 million to allocate statewide. Monongalia County Schools was allocated $8.6 million for the new school project in April 2014.[7][8]
