Montague County judge found dead in home
July 30 2010
Wichita Falls, Texas: Judge Ted H. Winn of the Montague County Court was found dead in his home on July 30, 2010 due to a possible gunshot wound. The sheriff has not determined the cause of the death or if it was suicide, but stated that the death was "extremely shocking."
The 47-year-old judge was in his first term and was running for a second term in November. Previously, he worked as a Bowie city councilman and mayor pro tem. He is survived by his wife Shelly and their two sons.
County commissioners held an emergency session later in the day to appoint a new judge. Judge Pro Tem Tommie Sappington, a County Commissioner, will serve on the court until the end of the year. A new judge will be chosen by voters in the November general election.[1]
