A Montana Concealed Weapons Amendment did not make the November 8, 2016 ballot in Montana as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The measure, upon voter approval, would have removed language from Section 12 of Article II of the Montana Constitution that states "nothing herein contained shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons."[1]
The proposed amendment was sponsored in the Montana Legislature by Rep. Matthew Monforton (R-69) as House Bill 457.[2]

The proposed amendment would have amended Section 12 of Article II of the Montana Constitution. The following struck-through text would have been deleted by the proposed measure's approval:[3]
The right of any person to keep or bear arms in defense of his own home, person, and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall not be called in question, but nothing herein contained shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons.[4]
