The Montana Governor Appointed Supreme Court Justices Amendment was not on the ballot in Montana as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on November 5, 2024.[1]
The amendment would have authorized the governor to appoint and the state senate to confirm justices to the Montana Supreme Court for eight-year terms. As of 2023, state supreme court justices were elected in nonpartisan elections.[2]

To put a legislatively referred constitutional amendment before voters, a two-thirds (66.67%) vote of all members of the Montana State Legislature is required.
This amendment was introduced as House Bill 915 on March 25, 2023. The House passed the amendment on April 4, 2023, by a vote of 59-40. The measure was not passed in the Senate before the state legislature adjourned its 2023 session.[1]
