Essex County, New Jersey, held a general election for all nine seats on the board of chosen freeholders on November 7, 2017. A primary was held on June 6, 2017, and the candidate filing deadline was April 3, 2017.[1]
Incumbents won re-election to the four at-large seats on the board, as well as the District 2, District 3, and District 4 seats. Bloomfield City Councilman Carlos Pomares (D) won the open District 5 seat unopposed, and Democratic candidate Robert Mercado defeated Republican contender Karina Garces in the open District 1 race. District 1 Freeholder Rolando Bobadilla and District 5 Freeholder Cynthia Toro opted not to run for re-election in 2017.
