An effort to recall three of the seven members of the Muskegon Heights School District Board of Directors in Michigan did not go to a vote in 2023. The recall petitions were rejected in a clarity hearing by the Muskegon County Election Commission on February 3, 2023. Safornia Johnson-Pierce, Estelita Rankin, and Peggy Selmon were named in the recall petitions.[1]
Two recall petitions were filed against each board member. Muskegon Heights residents Corey Brown and Joe Moore Jr. each filed a set of petitions. The reasons listed in the petitions included "failure to reduce the district's debt, misrepresentation of money spent and endangering the health and safety of students and staff," according to WZZM 13.[1]
