The Board of Supervisors acts as City Council an county Board of Supervisors, as SF is unique - it is both City and County
My grandmother who finished second grade, was an amazing businesswoman and eventually owned her own home and small business as a single mother in a third world country. She put everyone of her 6 kids through university, including my mom.

My mother, who had me when she was 18, was a domestic violence survivor, finished university, became a social worker and joined the revolution to make this a better world.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who paved the way for my civil rights and those of millions of American women.
Integrity, intelligence, community connection and responsiveness, transparency, respect for differences, strong work ethic, and commitment.
I have more skills and knowledge about labor, land use, and local government than any other candidate.

I am tenacious and determined, and have been intentional in maintaining my relationships with and the respect of people I disagree with, because I believe that until we are done fixing everything, we need to maintain communication.

I immigrated to San Francisco as a child from El Salvador, during the civil war. My family was on both sides of the conflict. My life experience has given me a unique ability to negotiate through conflict and make progress on the things I believe in, and to understand that repression and income inequality is not a sustainable system.
Represent the district to ensure services and access for district residents, and collaborate with other districts for the proper and efficient governance of the City.

The Civil War in El Salvador, where I was born. I was 11 when Monsignor Romero was assassinated, and I vividly remember that day.

The God of Small thins by Arhundati Roy. It is so emotionally intricate; joyfull and painful at the same time.
The relative lack of representation of women in positions of power, particularly Latinas.
This is a visible and well known office in San Francisco. I hope to make it transparent and accessible to folk in my community.
Very much so. To be effective, a Supervisor needs to know the structure of our government, the process of allocating resources, the needs of the different communities in this very diverse wonderful city, and the process of legislating and governing. Ours is a complicated , rich and diverse city, and to make progress, it is important to know the lay of the land.
Policy, finance, land use, economic development, health policy - all the issue areas that are involved in governing a city. It is also important that office holders understand the power structure of our society and issues of access to resources - and how race, class and gender influence those things. Supervisors also must be responsive, curious about the community, respectful of differences and have clarity of values.
