NJ Supreme Court nominee doesn't make it out of committee
March 23, 2012
New Jersey: Yesterday the New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee decided the nomination of Phil Kwon had reached the end of the road. The committee rejected Governor Chris Christie's Supreme Court nominee by a vote of 7-6.[1]
Leaders of the committee ultimately decided that Kwon's responses regarding his family's store and its legal troubles were not adequate. In February, Judgepedia covered this issue in Supreme Weekly: Trouble in New Jersey and disciplinary actions in the states.
Governor Christie is unhappy with the decision of the Senate Judiciary Committee, saying, "Phil Kwon was treated as a political punching bag. This was a circus, not a judicial hearing."[1]
The next step is for the governor to appoint a new justice. The committee has yet to vote on Christie's other recent nomination, Bruce Harris.
