On November 4, 2008, Carlson ran for the Cheshire District 6 of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, winning the first of four seats with 3,519 votes, ahead of Alfred Lerandeau (D) with 3,450 votes, Peter Allen (D) with 3,166 votes, Jane Johnson (R) with 2,773 votes, Anthony Dubois III (D) with 2,750 votes, Judson Dexter (R) with 2,480 votes, Douglas Lyman (R) with 2,019 votes, and 8 votes for Others.[1]
