Nancy Casson is the District 1 representative on the Bradley County Board of Education in Tennessee. She was first elected to the board in the general election on August 4, 2016.[1][2]

Casson has lived in Bradley County since 1980. She is the owner of a gift shop called Red Ribbon. Casson previously worked as an elementary and special education teacher for McMinn County Schools. While working in the field, she received the State of Tennessee's Outstanding Young Educator Award, the Distinguished Classroom Teacher Award, and the Outstanding Young Woman Award. Outside of her career in education, Casson also received the Robert L. Varnell Leadership Award in 2010 and the Community First Award of Volunteer Service in 2016.[3]

Since 1994, Casson has served as a charter member of Allied Arts, and since 2008, she has served as an elected member of the board of trustees at Holston United Methodist Home for Children. She is also a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, where she serves as a worship leader. Casson is additionally involved with the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce, MainStreet Cleveland, Junior Achievement of the Ocoee Region, United Way of Bradley County, the Cleveland Community Concert Association, the Healthy Woman Board, Tennova Hospital board of directors, and the Bradley/Cleveland Public Education Foundation.[3]

Five of the seven seats on the Bradley County Schools Board of Education were up for by-district general election on August 4, 2016.[4][5] In his bid for re-election to the District 1 seat, incumbent Chris Turner was defeated by challenger Nancy Casson. The District 3 race featured a rematch between incumbent Nicholas Lillios and challenger Melvin "Teddy" Bryson. Lillios defeated Bryson by one vote in 2012 to win his first term on the board. In the 2016 race, Bryson won the seat by more than 500 votes, according to unofficial election night results. Incumbents Rodney Dillard and Amanda Lee ran unopposed and won the District 5 and 6 seats, respectively. In District 7, incumbent Charlie Rose was defeated by challenger Jerry Frazier.[1][6][7][2]
