Nancy DeBoer, her husband Jim, and their three children have called Holland, Michigan, home since moving here to begin their family Her extensive community and Kingdom service has spanned a variety of backdrops from the classroom to the radio airwaves to city hall.

A former high school and middle school english teacher, Nancy co-founded the West Michigan Character Council (WMCC) and served as its executive director for 17 years. Her commitment to the residents of Holland took on new significance when Nancy was elected to the Holland City Council in the at-large position, a position she held for ten years.

Nancy launched a new career in 2013 as a morning talk show co-host on a local Holland Christian radio affiliate, 1260 The Pledge. She relinquished this role in 2015 when she was elected Holland’s mayor, the first woman to hold that position in the city’s history.

Nancy currently serves as assistant director for She Leads Michigan, an organization of accomplished women from across the state that offers faith-based solutions to modern-day challenges. In this role, she co-hosts the She Speaks weekly webinars and the Heart and Soul segments of the WLNS ABC-TV program, Expert Connexions.

  • I am the only candidate in this race that has been in government and had many accomplishments while in government. I am able to hit the ground running with the issues that are important to the people of Holland. I have lived in both Holland Township and the City of Holland and know many of the officials in the city and townships
  • While mayor of Holland our team was able to redo the civic center with no increased taxes by raising 30% of the funds privately. We converted out coal plant to a state of the art natural gas powerplant which has reduced electrical costs by 10%, and competly redid an entire block with a theater, shops, condos and a parking ramp. We also added and approved over 2,000 housing units.
  • I am the only conservative Republican in this race. I am the only candidate endorsed by current area state and national representatives, the state and Holland police associations, the State Chamber of Commerce, MI Farm Bureau, Citizens for Traditional Values, RTL of MI..

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Michigan

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
