Campaign themes

2016

Doty's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

  • Education: Strengthening our public schools is critical to transforming our kids into productive adults in a rapidly changing world. Parent involvement is a key component to their children’s success at school.
  • Government We Can Live With: Government at all levels exceeds its boundaries; encroaching on our daily lives, limiting our liberty and putting up roadblocks to success. When government exceeds its legitimate functions, bad outcomes are the result, which harms good people.
  • Healthcare: I am strongly opposed to Amendment 69, which will attempt to impose a single payer health care system in Colorado. Amendment 69 will double our income taxes, discourage new businesses from relocating here, and would disproportionately hurt the working poor.
  • Immigration: While the federal government has the power to make and enforce immigration laws, on the state level we must do everything we can to ensure that the laws are being fairly and equally enforced in all areas of the state.
  • Housing: I believe every young couple starting out — or older couple trying to downsize — deserves to live in a home they can afford. That’s why I will fight every day in the Legislature to reform our laws that will make homes more affordable — a law where homeowners are protected and our courts aren’t clogged with frivolous lawsuits.[2]
