February 22, 2011

Ohio: Nancy Drake Hammond, judge of the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas, has announced her retirement from the court. She will step down on March 31, 2011, after serving for nearly twenty years. In a letter to the citizens of the county, Hammond wrote, "I have loved my job and am honored and grateful you have continued my employment over the years. You have been wonderful bosses."[1]

Those interested in succeeding Hammond have until the end of February to apply. So far, three people have received applications. They are prosecutor David Bender, attorney and part-time magistrate Melissa Upthegrove, and former prosecutor Steve Eckstein. Governor John Kasich will appoint a new judge to the court for a term that expires in 2012.[1]
