Women's reproductive rights are a life and death issue in Texas. As the President of the Northeast Texas National Organization for Women, I work to promote women's rights and educate the public about women's issues. Secondly, safeguarding our public schools are paramount, especially for rural Texas. The local schools are the lifeblood of counties across our state. Not only for the educational value for our future, but for the survival of our local economies. Our public schools are the heart of rural Texas; the gathering place for communities, especially Friday night football. Thirdly, commonsense gun laws are critical to protect our school children. An excellent, strong, and prosperous public school system is the foundation for a thriving economy and a successful society.
I respect and revere those closest to me who do the everyday work of keeping democracy alive. I appreciate the leaders who are maintaining integrity of their offices by staying true and speaking up for democracy.
The U.S. Constitution should be mandatory reading for every high school student. "To Kill A Mockingbird" is an influential book. However, the Texas Democratic Platform best sums up my political philosophy.
Honesty and the ability to stay true to Democratic values.
I listen to people. I respect their life stories. I hear their wishes and dreams. Taking those perspectives into account, working within the parameters of the office and the laws and rules that govern the office and the processes, I believe I am smart enough, hard working enough, and honest enough to make positive changes to impact our society in a healthful and responsible manner.
All elected officials are in the office to represent the people who voted them in. Representation is their job.
I remember looking at the calendar December 1959 and contemplating the new calendar was a new decade and things would never be the same again. I clearly remember watching the JFK/Nixon debate September 1960. I was five years old.
I grew up in the country, so there was never a time when I didn't have important jobs, such as feeding livestock. My first "real" job was working in a furniture store at age 15. That was also my first experience of sexual molestation.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee captures the small-town, Southern mindset that was prevalent in my childhood and, unfortunately, still very much in existence today, but demonstrates right action -- and there is always a time and place for right action.
Wonder Woman, powerful defender of peace, justice, and equality.
I've Got Sunshine (Temptations). Gotta love it!
Equality in the workforce: being the most qualified applicant and seeing the job go to a less qualified male.
The branches of government should work together with mutual respect with the main goal of improving the lives of everyday people.
To maintain a strong democracy and rid our government of the fascist influence of the mega rich who own government leaders.
Every legislator must know the fundamentals of our democracy. Previous experience in politics does not always insure knowledge.
Relationships, yes. Critical thinking, no. The most important relationship is that between the elected official and the voters he or she represents.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, Representative Nancy Pelosi, and, while not a legislator, Michelle Obama.
Every U.S. citizen should be encouraged to run for office.
The pregnant woman whose baby died in utero and she was denied a D&C. She carried her dead child inside of her, suffering continual physical pain and mental anguish and risking sepsis for ten days until her body expelled the contents of her uterus. Legislators who demand that level of inhumanity have no business in office.
I don't have a favorite joke at this time, but I have a CONCEPT of a favorite joke.
In accordance with the Constitution and laws.

Financial transparency and government accountability need to be kitchen table conversations. Only then will our government leaders know that the voters are holding them accountable for overall success of our state. It is the job of elected officials to communicate to voters through honest media sources as well as direct voter communication about how tax money is spent and how improvements are being made.
Ballot initiatives empower everyday Americans to make their voices heard. When state legislatures are unresponsive to the needs and wishes of the people, there must be a process to pass popular policy and validate the will of the people.
