Positions on the issues

The candidate was asked to answer four questions from Ballotpedia regarding issues facing cities across America. The questions are in the left column and the candidate's responses are in the right column:

Question Response
Is it important for the city’s budget to be balanced?
Very important
Which level of government do you feel should set a minimum wage?
State
What do you think is the best way to improve a city’s public safety?
Public outreach/education programs. Full implementation of community Policing and get politics out of OPD.
How do you think your city should emphasize economic development?
Recruiting new businesses to your city. Economic Development is favoritism based and not encompassing what the residents want or need. Oakland has no knowledge about enticing business...Leadership has no business savvy and has been allowing business to fold and leave rather than work with them to meet what would want them to stay.

Additional themes

In information she provided to Voter's Edge California during the 2016 city council election, Sidebotham highlighted the following priorities:[1]

  • Jobs and sales tax base businesses building for sustainable economic growth
  • Public Safety which entails safe neighborhoods, magnet for business relocation and strengthening the public school curriculum to entail shop and home economic programs.
  • Complete outside audit of the City of Oakland, Port and OUS leading to fiscal accountability.[8]

2014

Sidebotham's 2014 mayoral campaign website highlighted the following issues:[9]

I have for the last 32 years been an advocate for open space and creeks, economic revitalization, jobs, Community Policing, full strength police and fire departments, Neighborhood Watch, CORE, and open/transparent and fair government representation. I led the charge to build a new animal shelter, campaigned successfully to disallow 'big box' development at Leona Quarry, formed a Merchant Association in the Foothill/Seminary area and have been involved one way or another on numerous issues that have impacted our neighborhoods, districts and the City as a whole.
