Candidate Connection

Nathan George participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on May 1, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Nathan George's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Encourage growth in clean energy, increase grant money and education for small businesses, push for more money in all forms of public education.[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Education, healthcare, and economic development.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Nathan George answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

I have several heroes and role models. Politically I really look up to John F. Kennedy. He encouraged our country to shoot for the moon and we did. I believe that we need to continue to make big goals like that in other areas so that our children’s future can be even better because of the innovations we create.

I have great respect for a man named Shane Claiborne. He is a religious leader who truly lives out his faith in the modern world. His convictions are inspiring and he walks them out in love.

I have great respect for anyone who is brave enough to ask hard questions and go against the grain to do what is right even when it is hard. Everyday people standing up for others and what they believe in is very inspiring.[3]

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
First of all I think care for others is the most important quality needed in a public official. If you do not care for the people you represent then how can you truly understand what is important to them?

Honesty is also of great importance. So many people mistrust the political system because many politicians have lied or cut corners to further their personal agenda.

Finally, I would say that humility is an important characteristic of someone seeking public office. We are all the same. We all deserve the same opportunity to achieve the American Dream.[3]

What legacy would you like to leave?
I want my children to be proud of having me as a dad. I want them to be able to look back at the things I did and be inspired to do even greater things. That’s the legacy I want to leave.[3]
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
Education. For the longest time our state has been at close to the bottom of the list and proud that we weren’t at the bottom. We need to shoot for the moon when it comes to education. Our future depends on it.[3]
