Nathaniel M. Gorton (b. 1938) is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He joined the court in 1992 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. At the time of appointment, he was in private practice in Massachusetts.[1]

Gorton assumed senior status on May 31, 2025.[2][3]

Biography

Gorton was born in Illinois. He earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College in 1960 and a law degree from Columbia Law School in 1966. Gorton spent his entire pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Massachusetts from 1966 to 1992. Gorton served on active duty in the US Navy from 1960 to 1962.[1]

Judicial career

District of Massachusetts

Gorton was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts by President George H.W. Bush on April 28, 1992, to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089 which was approved by Congress. Gorton was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 23, 1992, on a voice vote and received commission on September 24, 1992.[1]

Gorton took senior status on May 31, 2025.[1]
