The National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) is a bipartisan organization composed of state auditors, state comptrollers, and state treasurers from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. As of July 2025, the organization's website described itself as "an organization for state officials tasked with the financial management of the state government".[1]

Background

The National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers was founded in 1915. It begun providing training to state government finance officials in the 1970s.[2]The NASACT's mission is "to facilitate efforts to improve state government transparency, accountability and financial management."[3]

  • Plans and manages training and technical assistance programs and handles numerous requests for information each year from state auditors, comptrollers, treasurers, and other government officials, as well as the private sector.
  • Monitors and responds to federal legislation and agency developments that have an impact on state government and acts as a liaison to federal regulatory bodies and Congressional committees on issues of interest to members.
  • Uses its expertise to respond to technical standards-setting bodies, helping to ensure the highest levels of government transparency, accountability and integrity.[5]
