Ballotpedia provides comprehensive election coverage of the 100 largest cities in America by population as well as mayoral, city council, and district attorney election coverage in state capitals outside of the 100 largest cities. This judge is outside of that coverage scope and does not receive scheduled updates.
Neal Nettesheim is a former Wisconsin judge who served in Waukesha County. Nettesheim received his law degree from Marquette University. After graduating in 1966, he was in private practice until being elected to the Waukesha County Circuit Court in 1975. He was re-elected to the court for two more terms. He was appointed to the county's court of appeals in 1984. Nettesheim retired in 2007.[1]
Nettesheim continues to act as a consultant to attorneys and law firms and is a reserve judge.[1]
As a reserve judge, Nettesheim was selected to serve during the first of the two John Doe investigations related to Scott Walker (R).
John Doe investigations
Two John Doe investigations, beginning in 2010 and ending in 2015, were launched by Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm (D) into the activities of staff and associates of Gov. Scott Walker (R).[2] Judge Nettesheim was appointed to preside over the first of two John Doe investigations related to Walker. The John Doe that Nettesheim was involved in was launched on May 5, 2010, over missing funds from a charity event hosted by Walker.[3][2][4] During the 2010 gubernatorial election, the John Doe investigation was expanded several times to include a Walker donor and Walker's county executive staff. According to documents from a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the investigations, Nettesheim allowed the investigation to be expanded 18 times and eventually signed an order to roll all of the first John Doe information into the second.[5][6]
