Early career

He returned to Vermont in April 2001 and worked as executive director of the Republican Party of Vermont until January 2002. After that, Lunderville worked as campaign manager for former Republican Governor of Vermont Jim Douglas' gubernatorial campaign in 2002. Following the election, he served as a member of the Governor's Council of Economic Advisors starting in 2003. That year, Lunderville also became secretary of civil and military affairs in Gov. Douglas' office. He went on to work as chief spokesman for Gov. Douglas' 2004 re-election campaign.[2][3][1]
In 2006, Gov. Douglas made Lunderville secretary of transportation, where he served until Douglas appointed him secretary of administration in 2008. He was appointed to a ten-year term on the Legislative Apportionment Board, which oversees the reapportionment process for the Vermont State Legislature, in 2010.[3][2][1][4]
Lunderville remained secretary of administration, where he was in charge of the daily operations of the state government, until 2011. He left the state government to work for Green Mountain Power, an electric company, but returned when Governor of Vermont Peter Shumlin (D) named him Irene recovery officer after the tropical storm caused major damage in the state in August 2011. The Associated General Contractors of Vermont awarded Lunderville the 2011 Tropical Storm Irene Recovery Leadership Award for his efforts. He was also elected in 2011 to serve on the board for the Preservation Trust of Vermont, an organization which aims to "help communities save and use historic places."[3][5][2][1][6]
