The Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) is an organization of school boards in Nebraska. On June 11, 2022, the NASB board of directors voted to end the organization's membership in the National School Boards Association, following a May vote by the board's seven-member executive committee to recommend canceling membership in the national organization.[2][3]

The NASB represents 329,000 students and 1,700 school board members across 260 districts.[1] Its mission is to provide "programs, services, and advocacy to strengthen public education for all Nebraskans."[1]

Work and activities

Legislative and policy work

The NASB advocacy handbook details its position on numerous policy matters, and states, "Over the past few years, the Legislature has increasingly inserted itself into both the boardroom and the classroom. Decisions that have traditionally been left to local boards or the State Board of Education have been centralized at the State Capitol. In addition, the past years have seen an increase in efforts to divide public K-12 education and foster distrust between local boards and their constituents."[5]
