OMAHA, Nebraska: The City of Omaha will bring the contract dispute with the Professional Firefighters Association of Omaha, Local 385 to the Nebraska Supreme Court.[1]
The city's firefighters have been working without a contract since December 2007, and the Nebraska Commission of Industrial Relations has made modifications to the previous contract while the two sides work on a new one.[1]
The main issue is that the city and the firefighters union disagree on how the changes are interpreted. The city is appealing a court order in line with a CIR decision requiring the city to have 657 fire personnel. The union says in its appeal that Omaha should be found in violation of a requirement for 150 captains.[1]
The Nebraska Supreme Court will hear arguments April 7, 2011.[1]
