OMAHA, Nebraska: Former navy pilot Shane Osborn (R) announced on Thursday morning that he has officially started his 2014 campaign for U.S. Senate.[1] Osborn has been campaigning for the past month and has added a prominent GOP fundraiser, Dean Dennhardt, to his campaign team. Dennhardt previously worked on Governor Dave Heineman's campaigns and holds a substantial list of contributors to the governor's campaigns and activities. Osborn is best-known as the pilot who, on April 1, 2001, successfully landed a Navy surveillance aircraft after a Chinese F-8 fighter crashed into his plane. Osborn and his 23-member crew were held for 12 days before being returned to the United States. He served one term as state treasurer from 2007 to 2011 before moving to the private sector, where he has worked in multiple ventures, including a new small business that helps create employment opportunities for veterans with disabilities.[2][3]
