Nellie Gorbea
Nellie Gorbea (Democratic Party) was the Rhode Island Secretary of State. She assumed office in 2015. She left office on January 3, 2023.
Gorbea (Democratic Party) ran for election for Governor of Rhode Island. She lost in the Democratic primary on September 13, 2022.
Biography
Gorbea served as executive director of HousingWorks RI. Prior to that, she was deputy secretary of state under Matt Brown (R) from 2002-2006. Additionally, she has been an economic advisor to the governor of Puerto Rico and worked with the Governor’s Committee on Children’s Services Planning in New Jersey.[1][2]

Rhode Island Secretary of State (2015-2022)
Gorbea first won election to the secretary of state's office on November 4, 2014. She was sworn into office on January 6, 2015, replacing term-limited predecessor Ralph Mollis.[3] Gorbea was re-elected in 2018.

Noteworthy events
June 2017 request for voter rolls
On June 29, 2017, the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, created by President Donald Trump (R) on May 11, requested information on registered voters from all 50 states dating back to 2006. The states were given until July 14 to respond. On June 30, Secretary Gorbea announced that the state would provide only publicly available information to the commission.
