Collapse all
|- The legislature must budget with taxpayers in mind and keep taxes limited while reducing wasteful spending. We shouldn't need a referendum to stop taxes on our groceries and gas, especially when we have a budget surplus.
- Each parent has the right to provide their children the best education. Nelson understands that parents, teachers and local school boards should be the major drivers on education, not big government. His focus will be on returning control to the parents and teachers to better prepare our students for the jobs of tomorrow. Nelson is opposed to federal intervention in education and will fight to protect parents' roles in providing the best education possible for their children.
- I love and support our constitution. It was never intended to be, and should not be, interpreted in the way it has. Judges should not interpret the constitution in a way that creates new laws. Instead, they should interpret the constitution to preserve the original intent of our founding fathers. If the constitution needs change or updating, that should be done through the amendment process, not by the courts.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
