Federal charges and resignation (2020)

On August 26, 2020, Del Valle Colón was indicted and arrested for a kickback scheme in which he inflated the salary of one of his employees in exchange for receiving some of the money in return. Del Valle Colón resigned from his seat on August 26, 2020.[1]

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Del Valle Colón said, “This decision has been motivated by personal matters and in the best welfare of our party. The process that I face today requires a lot of time and focus, but we are convinced that truth and justice will prevail, which is why we leave with our heads held high."[1]
