Nelson Gabriel is the President & CEO of MADE MEN, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to empower individuals and communities to succeed through education, training and connections to sustainable resources.

He is a father, speaker, and community organizer.

Prior to founding MADE MEN, Gabriel served as Senior Pastor of several African Methodist Episcopal Churches of the Midwest Annual Conference.

Gabriel served as CEO of Beyond The Walls International, a Midwest organization designed to help men and women reenter society from incarceration; and CEO of Unity in the Community, a mentoring organization that hosted the United States Department of Education’s – Voices in Action National Youth Summit.

From 1987-1991, he served as a Louisiana Democratic Representative (House District 90B), in which I was the Youngest Elected Official in both the State of Louisiana and the United States of America. In 1990, I was recognized by JET Magazine as the country’s youngest elected official.

Reflecting on his personal mistakes in life, his daily mantra is, “I cannot walk around allowing shame to limit or define my life's goals, nor can I allow it to shape other individual’s goals as they try to start over.”

Gabriel is the son of the late Mildred Gabriel and Nelson Robertson; the Godchild of the late Ernest N. “Dutch” Morial, New Orleans’ First Black Mayor. I am the proud father of three children: Damielle, Coby and Neichelle.

  • Education & Workforce Development Increasing state funding for adult education programs to enhance workforce development opportunities.
  • Child Welfare Increasing state funding for child welfare to leverage the services of non-profits to support children in need and by implementing child support programs for struggling mothers and fathers.
  • Affordable Housing Increasing state funding for affordable housing by attracting developers to the district to increase and rehab the district’s housing stock.

"I come from proud a family that has been involved with public service for as long as I can remember. I want to work for you. We need to create more living wage jobs, improve our schools, and make public safety - especially getting guns off the streets, a top priority. With nearly three decades of community experience, I know what it takes to find solutions, navigate the complicated governmental agencies, and get things done."

With that in my mind, I am passionate about ensuring that every child is safe, feed and housed; which includes providing wrap around services for each family.
I looked up to the late New Orleans Mayor Ernest "Dutch" Morial, first black Mayor of New Orleans. He was my mentor and a great leader, who sparked the political system in my heart.
I was elected to office at 18 years of age. It was scary, fun and exciting all at the same time.
My first job was at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. I was there for 2 years.
