Nelson J. Goodin was a judge for the Dona Ana County Magistrate Court in New Mexico. He was appointed to the court by Governor Susana Martinez in November 2013. He succeeded Judge Oscar Frietze in the position.[1] This was the second time Governor Martinez had appointed Goodin to a trial court. In 2012, he served on the Third Judicial District Court. Goodin was appointed to the court in April and lost his bid for a full term in November 2012. [2][3]

He was defeated in his bid for election to the Dona Ana County Magistrate Court in 2014, and stepped down when his term ended on December 31, 2014.[4]

Primary: He ran unopposed in the Republican primary on June 3, 2014.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 49.2 percent of the vote. He competed against Samantha Madrid. [4][5]

Nelson Goodin ran for the seat on the Third District to which he was appointed in April 2012. He was defeated by Darren Kugler in the November 6, 2012 general election.[6][3]

Education

Goodin received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University and his J.D. from the California Western School of Law. He also has a LL.M. in taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law.[7]

Career

Prior to serving on the Third District, Goodin served as chief legal counsel for the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department. Before that, he was a deputy district attorney for the Third Judicial District.[7]
