The 1st Congressional District of Nevada held an election for the U.S. House of Representatives on November 4, 2014. Rep. Dina Titus (D) defeated Annette Teijeiro (R), Richard Charles (L) and Kamau Bakari (Independent American) in the general election.

Nevada's 1st was considered a Democratic-leaning district, which left Titus (D) with a definite advantage in the November general election against Republican challenger Teijeiro. The Cook Political Report rated Titus' seat as "Solid Democratic," meaning that it was not expected to be competitive.[4] Although Teijeiro had raised a substantial amount of money in campaign funds, Titus had a large monetary advantage. As of the April Quarterly Federal Election Commission (FEC) reports, Titus had $238,458.15 in cash on hand, more than twice Teijeiro's $117,719.25.

Titus had only been in office since 2013, but another Democrat, Shelley Berkley, held the seat for 14 years before her, from 1999 to 2013.[5][6] Titus won election to the U.S. House in 2012 with a 32.1 percent margin of victory over Republican candidate Chris Edwards.

Both Titus and Teijeiro faced challengers in the primary election on June 10, 2014, but while Titus defeated Herbert Peters 86 to 14 percent, Teijeiro defeated Jose Padilla by only 9.4 percent.

Primary: A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. Nevada has a closed primary system, in which the selection of a party's candidates in an election is limited to registered party members.[7][8]

Voter registration: To vote in the primary, voters had to register by May 10, 2014. For the general election, the voter registration deadline was October 14, 2014.[9]

Incumbent: Heading into the election the incumbent was Dina Titus (D), who was first elected in 2012.

Nevada's 1st Congressional District is located in the southern portion of the state and includes parts of Clark County.[10]
