April Becker defeated four other candidates in the June 14 Republican primary for Nevada's 3rd Congressional District. Incumbent Susie Lee, who was first elected in 2018, ran in the Democratic primary.

Becker, John Kovacs, and Noah Malgeri led in fundraising and media attention.

At the time of the election, Becker ran April Becker & Associates, a law practice, and owned several small businesses with her husband. In the 2020 general election for state Senate, Nicole Cannizzaro (D) defeated Becker 50.5% to 49.5%. Becker listed the economy, border security and crime rates, and education as the top issues facing the state.[1] Becker said, "I think Susie Lee doesn’t care about people. I think she is in this job for the wrong reasons. In contrast, I care about the people who I am going to work for...That has been my motivator for everything I have done my entire life. Going to law school, my pro bono work, my senate and congressional race…it is going to be me fighting for the people I work for."[1] Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R), former Ambassador Nikki Haley, and the Nevada Republican Party endorsed Becker.

At the time of the election, Kovacs was the president of NVNJ Construction Group, a construction company he founded. He listed inflation, border security and crime, and water scarcity as his top issues.[2] In drawing attention to the issue of water scarcity, Kovacs said, "It’s not as sexy as the election fraud or critical race theory or the Second Amendment, but if this area didn’t have water, it’d be a ghost town."[3] Kovacs has said his background running businesses is what sets him apart from his opponents: "How many other candidates are running multimillion-dollar businesses with collective bargaining agreements and paying into health care for more than 50 employees? None of them. One day I’m an accountant, the next a lawyer, then an engineer… the other candidates have no concept of this stuff. People are going to see this once we start talking about the issues.”[3] In a campaign ad, Kovacs described Becker as a RINO (Republican In Name Only).

At the time of the election, Malgeri was a U.S. Amy veteran, attorney, and founder and CEO of Mojave Rail Fabrication, a company that made automobile roof racks. Malgeri campaigned on stopping the teaching of critical race theory in schools, ending corruption in Washington D.C., and making America economically independent of China. Malgeri said, "I think my big picture appreciation of things like China, insight as patent attorney and decorated Army officer living in Europe for five years and the fact that I invented something and built a business around it have equipped me with the necessary perspective. I’ve also lived and worked in Washington, D.C., before. I know what it’s like there.”

Clark Bossert and Albert Maxwell Goldberg also ran in the race.

The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter and Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales consider the general election a Toss-up. Larry J. Sabato's Crystal Ball rates the general election Tilt Democratic.

Nevada's 3rd Congressional District was created in 2001 as a result of redistricting. Republicans have won six of the last 10 elections—in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2012, and 2014. Democrats won the district in 2008, 2016, 2018, and 2020. In 2020, Lee defeated challenger Daniel Rodimer (R) 48.8% in 45.8%. According to an analysis of the 2020 presidential election by Daily Kos, under the district's previous lines, residents voted for Joe Biden (D) over then-President Donald Trump (R) 49.1% to 48.9%.[4]

Submitted Biography "I’m a first-generation American who was born in Newark, New Jersey. My father immigrated to the United States in 1956 following the Hungarian Revolution against communism. I grew up in Piscataway, where I excelled in academics and athletics and learned deep respect for this country’s founding principles. I attended The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, where I earned Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1988. I then began my career at the New York-New Jersey Port Authority. From that point on, I oversaw many projects, including repairs to the George Washington Bridge and the Holland Tunnel. My lone stint in politics came in 1990, when I was elected to serve on the Piscataway Township Board of Education. That same year, I opened my own construction company, Diamond Construction, growing it over decades into a successful, multi-state enterprise. I moved to Henderson, Nevada, in 2015. Soon after, I founded Silver State Construction and NVNJ Construction Group. In 2019, I was a finalist for Equipment World’s Contractor of the Year Award. I am happily married to my wife, Danielle, and have four children: Cristina, Johnny, Christopher, and Crue. "

Our country has been misdirected away from a sound policy of secure borders, energy independence, and job prosperity. I am running to restore our national prominence and maintain our quality of life and standard of living.

The Biden Administration has embraced radical social policies that call for defunding the police and teaching Critical Race Theory to our children. I believe in American Exceptionalism and am running to protect the idea of America as envisioned by our Founders.

The depletion of Lake Mead has left Southern Nevada increasingly short of water, a situation no politician has the courage to talk about. If elected, I will work to find bold but achievable solutions to this unfolding crisis.

Key Messages

To read this candidate's full survey responses, click here.

First Key Message: The American people have been abandoned by our elites in all the great decisions our country has made in recent years. They don’t think about Americans when they go to war, when they slap Americans with taxes and regulations, when they allow dangerous people to teach American children to hate themselves and this great country. As a Congressman, I’m going to change the rules in their favor and make the government live by these rules as well. This is my top campaign promise to the people of Nevada and the United States.

Second Key Message: Critical race theory (CRT) or “wokism” is no longer just the fixation of college professors- it’s driving policy in our government, corporate institutions, military, and, worst of all, our public and private schools. It is a dangerous and divisive ideology that has no place in America. I pledge to defund CRT and drive it out of the American political mainstream as well as our school curricula.

Third Key Message: The corruption in our country is the worst our generation has ever seen. There are now explicitly two systems of justice: one deployed by elites against their adversaries in; and another that legitimizes and hides the crimes of the elite. We must remain subject to laws, not men. I will fight to expose public corruption, lying, and actual crimes of the elite through the use of legislation and oversight power.

1) Bring back factories & free & fair trade to America

2) Criminals that burn & loot & kill & break laws should be sent to uncomfortable (No more country club prisons) in Alaska & Death Valley 3) Repeal all unconstitutional gun laws 4) Fix education 5) Defend GOD no more shutting down Houses of Worship 6) Defend against supersonic missiles from China 7) Jail for treasonous acts 8) Boycott Woke Companies (Woke is a bad Joke) 9) Split cities over 1,000,000 people into smaller more manageable cities 10) Get back our Freedom of Speech & Press No Office Of Disinformation 11) Stop the great dictator AOC and her hate squad the greatest threat to Democracy in the US out to destroy the US 12) End sanctuary cities 13) Election & Campaign Finance Reform all donors names should be revealed 14) Stop fraud in all welfare and government programs with fingerprint ID 15) Pump more oil to lower inflation and hurt Russia. When we oversupply and the price goes down it is unprofitable for Russia to pump oil 16) Is Joe Biden Schizophrenic? His multiple identities include corn puff, imprisoned with Nelson Mandela, a truck driver, oil field worker, and many more personalities 17) Write in Donald Trump as Speaker of the House then Impeach Kamala Harris, then Joe Biden and let Donald Trump move up as President a position that was stolen from him in the last election 18) Lock Hot Sauce Hillary up for Russia Hoax & 4 Coup attempts against Donald Trump

19) 12 year term limits
Border Security: The Biden Administration’s border policy is a disgrace as it has allowed record numbers of illegal and unvaccinated immigrants into this country. We cannot consider ourselves sovereign if we do not police our borders. If elected, I will fight to reinstate the Trump Administration’s border policies, which kept illegal migration at bay.

Public Safety: I am appalled at the continued calls from the left to “defund the police.” This rhetoric, even when not accompanied by cuts to police budgets, has had a dreadful impact on police morale and led massive numbers of officers to retire. If elected, I will push to ensure that local police forces do not get marginalized and that people who commit crimes are prosecuted.

Second Amendment: I believe that the Founders put the Second Amendment in the Constitution as a check against any tyrannical tendencies the federal government might display. Owning a gun is a right that “shall not be infringed,” and I will fight any and all attempts to diminish or eliminate it.

Water Scarcity in Southern Nevada: Politicians have not talked about the issue despite a clearly worsening situation in Lake Mead. I want to increase the water supply through methods such as piping in desalinated water from California and purchasing water rights from states with heavy amounts of rain.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?:

China

The Chinese Communist state is a global menace. They will stop at nothing in order to become the world’s superpower and bring America down in the process. Indeed, they have already launched a hot war against us.

As a former military and international lawyer who has practiced law in three continents and during war and peacetime, I know how to stop them and make them pay reparations for the considerable damage they have already caused.

Protect the Second Amendment

The Right to Bear Arms is an essential American liberty. I will work vigorously to halt all attempts at unconstitutional federal gun control and work to give back the liberties taken from Americans.

Stand Up for the Right to Life

As an unapologetic Christian and proud father, I am 100% Pro-Life. I will defund Planned Parenthood, expose the butchery of the abortion industry, and protect State and Local governments who move to promote life.

Cut Taxes

Excessive taxes and regulations hold back so many Americans from achieving their dreams and providing for the basic necessities. I will simplify the tax code and slash taxes to allow working Americans to keep more of their own money, instead of sending it overseas to corrupt regimes with no accountability or oversight. This waste of the money of hard working Americans is a crime and must end.

They must have vision, principle, and conviction.

Provide your constituents with an authentic and transparent view of who you are and what you stand for.

Demonstrate servant leadership which is the only kind of leadership.

Have the requisite mental competence to lead through policy discussions on legislative issues.
Stay responsive to your constituents. Protect and defend the constitution and the rights of Americans. NEVER back down, and NEVER sell out!
911. I was in fourth grade. I lived in a town that supported a military base, and everything changed that day. I remember seeing the tremendous loss of life, feeling anger toward those that attacked us, and experiencing the patriotism and national unity that rose in the wake of this tragedy.
John Kennedy was shot I was in kindergarten and the teacher told us.
I started doing landscape work when I was in 6th grade, but as a high schooler, the experiences of working in construction and managing a restaurant during the years immediately following the 2008 financial crisis instilled a deep sense of gratitude for being among the ones that were able to find work during those challenging years. I earned an Associate’s degree in Welding in this season and I was able to complete my Bachelor’s degree in business through a scholarship opportunity to attend college in Virginia. This formative time in my early career taught me the value of hard work and the critical need for accessible educational opportunities and paths towards economic mobility for all Americans.
Paperboy a few years. Extra Extra read all about it.
Stopping a Globalist, or Communist, or Jihadist takeover of our country and our Constitution being shredded. I do not want America to turn into a Godless Authoritative dictatorship. All over Western Civilization Globalists, Communists and Jihadists have taken a beach head in our government, England, Europe with the intention of making laws limiting and destroying our freedoms, statues, and civilization, and attacking God.
I am in favor of term limits. If you can’t get the job done and effect the changes that you wish to see in about 12 years then you ought to have the humility to realize that you're probably not the right person to lead the charge and therefore you should step down.
12 years for Congress & Senate No more lifetime Princes & Princesses in Congress and the Senate owned by corporations and enriching themselves through insider trading.
My friend Jordan has a business in CD3 that is expanding its manufacturing capabilities by leasing a new facility and adding millions of dollars in new machinery. He is worried about inflation and whether or not we will have a functioning economy, stable currency, and minimal regulatory environment. Private domestic business investment is the backbone of real economic growth, and nobody is looking after the business owners, the risk takers, and the job creators. The government is diminishing the incentive for Americans to work hard and achieve their dreams. This has to change.
Absolutely. No one is going to get everything they want in this world

Race ratings

See also: Race rating definitions and methods

Ballotpedia provides race ratings from four outlets: The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, Sabato's Crystal Ball, and DDHQ/The Hill. Each race rating indicates if one party is perceived to have an advantage in the race and, if so, the degree of advantage:

  • Safe and Solid ratings indicate that one party has a clear edge and the race is not competitive.
  • Likely ratings indicate that one party has a clear edge, but an upset is possible.
  • Lean ratings indicate that one party has a small edge, but the race is competitive.[6]
  • Toss-up ratings indicate that neither party has an advantage.

Race ratings are informed by a number of factors, including polling, candidate quality, and election result history in the race's district or state.[7][8][9]

Post-filing deadline analysis

The following analysis covers all U.S. House districts up for election in Nevada in 2022. Information below was calculated on April 6, 2022, and may differ from information shown in the table above due to candidate replacements and withdrawals after that time.

In 2022, 38 candidates filed to run in Nevada’s four U.S. House districts, including 21 Republicans, 12 Democrats, and five independent or third party candidates. That’s 9.5 candidates per district, less than the 10.0 candidates per district in 2020 and 10.5 candidates per district in 2018.

This was the first candidate filing deadline under new district lines following Nevada's decennial redistricting process. Nevada was apportioned four congressional districts, the same number it had after the 2010 census. Since Democrats and Republicans filed to run in every district, none were guaranteed to one party or the other at the time of the filing deadline.

All four incumbents filed for re-election and, of that total, three drew primary challengers leaving Rep. Steven Horsford (D) as the only incumbent uncontested in a primary. In Nevada, uncontested primaries are canceled, meaning Horsford was guaranteed to advance to the general election.

With all four incumbents seeking re-election, this left no open districts. The last time Nevada had an open U.S. House district was in 2018 with two.

The 2nd district drew the most candidate filings with 14 candidates running. This included five Republicans, including incumbent Rep. Mark Amodei, seven Democrats, and two third party candidates.

Partisan Voter Index

See also: The Cook Political Report's Partisan Voter Index

Heading into the 2022 elections, based on results from the 2020 and 2016 presidential elections, the Cook Partisan Voter Index for this district was D+1. This meant that in those two presidential elections, this district's results were 1 percentage points more Democratic than the national average. This made Nevada's 3rd the 201st most Democratic district nationally.[14]
