Nevada District Courts
Nevada District Courts are the courts of original jurisdiction in the state of Nevada. Appeals from these trial courts are heard by the Nevada Court of Appeals.
Jurisdiction
The District Courts have general jurisdiction over all legal matters. District Courts may also hear appeals from the Nevada Justice Courts and Nevada Municipal Courts.
For civil cases involving money damages, district courts have a minimum jurisdictional threshold of $10,000.00. Any civil case in which a litigant is seeking a specific sum of money that is less than $10,000.00 needs to be litigated through the appropriate Nevada Justice Courts.[1]
District court judges may also preside over specialty court cases related to felony and gross misdemeanor offenses. Specialty courts are therapeutic court programs addressing substance abuse and mental illness as contributors to criminal offenses.[2][3]
