The Nevada State Board of Regents is an elected executive agency of the Nevada state government, responsible for managing the state's system of higher education.[1]
Current officeholders
The board is composed of 13 voting members elected to six-year terms in by-district elections. Beginning in January 2029, the board will decrease from 13 to 9 members, and the term length will be shortened from six years to four years.[2] Designated members are elected every two years at the general election.[3]

The Nevada State Board of Regents was established by Article 11, Section 4 of the Nevada Constitution.[4] Section 396.040 of the Nevada Revised Statutes lays out the board's structure.

Qualifications
Qualifications for serving on the Nevada State Board of Regents are laid out in Section 396.040 of the Nevada Revised Statutes. Elected board members are required to be a resident in the district they are elected to represent.[3]

Vacancies
The procedure for filling vacancies on the Nevada State Board of Regents is laid out in Section 396.060 of the Nevada Revised Statutes. In the event of a vacancy on the board, the governor appoints a successor. The appointee serves until the next general election, when a successor is elected to fill the remainder of the term.[6]
Section 396.060:
| “ | In case of a vacancy in the Board of Regents caused by death, resignation, removal, or otherwise, the Governor shall fill the vacancy by the appointment of a qualified person to serve until the next succeeding general election, when the vacancy shall be filled by election for the remainder of the unexpired term of office of the Regent originally elected.[5] | ” |

The duties of the Nevada State Board of Regents are laid out in Title 1, section 3 of the Board of Regents Handbook.[7]

State budget
The budget for the Nevada System of Higher Education for Fiscal Year 2025 was $1,123,190,587.[8]
Compensation
Compensation for members of the Nevada State Board of Regents is laid out in Section 396.070 of the Nevada Revised Statutes. Members of the board are entitled to receive $80 for each meeting attended as well as a per diem of $60 or the maximum rate established by the federal government. Members of the board are also entitled to a travel allowance.[9]
Section 396.070:
| “ | Salaries and expenses of Regents; restrictions on account to pay for hosting expenditures of Regent; annual report and availability of hosting expenditures. 1. Each member of the Board of Regents is entitled to receive a salary of $80 for each meeting of the Board that he or she attends.
