Nevada petition drive deadline only a week away
June 7, 2010
CARSON CITY, Nevada: Nevada initiative supporters have about a week before the statewide petition drive deadline arrives. The state requires that constitutional amendments be submitted to county clerks/registrars by June 15. County clerks must then verify and submit the signatures to the secretary of state by no later than August 4, 2010.[1] Despite state citizens filing a total of eleven initiatives in 2010, only four are facing the June deadline for the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot. According to reports, however, only one initiative is anticipated to submit signatures next week - Nevada Mining Tax Measure. The initiative proposes removing the statutory deductions allowed to mining companies by current state law.[2]
