Two seats on the New Caney ISD Board were scheduled to be up for election on November 5, 2013. The district canceled the election since both seats were uncontested. Vice President and Position 6 seat holder Curt Joslin and Position 7 seat holder Elizabeth Rhoden Harrell both retained their seats.
About the district
New Caney Independent School District is located in Montgomery County, Texas. The county seat of Montgomery County is Conroe. As of the 2010 Census, the county was home to 455,746 residents.[1] In the 2011-2012 school year, New Caney Independent School District was the 95th-largest school district in Texas and served 10,884 students.[2]
Demographics
Montgomery County overperformed in comparison to the rest of Texas in terms of higher education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 30.1 percent of Montgomery County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 26.3 percent for Texas as a whole. The median household income in Montgomery County was $66,422 compared to $51,563 for the state of Texas. The poverty rate in Montgomery County was 12.3 percent compared to 17.4 percent for the entire state.[1]

Method of board member selection
The New Caney ISD elects seven trustees for rotating three-year terms that serve the district at-large. Elections are held on the first Tuesday in November annually. Two seats on the board were up for election on November 4, 2014.
There was an election scheduled for November 5, 2013 for two seats however the district canceled the election because both seats were uncontested.
What was at stake?
Two seats were scheduled to be up for election, covering Positions 6 and 7 on the board. Since no challengers filed for that seat, the district made the decision to cancel the election.
