New Federal Judge Sworn In

Norfolk, Virginia: Norfolk federal public defender Arenda L. Wright was sworn in as a judge for the Eastern District of Virginia on October 27th, 2011.[1]

Nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the United States Senate in May, Wright is the first black woman to serve on the Eastern District bench for Virginia.[2]

Wright is a former graduate of North Carolina Central University's School of Law and before her position as a federal public defender, Wright was a federal prosecutor, as well as having served in the Navy JAC corps.[3]
