Established in 1974, the New Jersey Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct is a judicial disciplinary agency in New Jersey. The committee investigates misconduct complaints made against judges in the state. If the committee decides public discipline is required in a misconduct matter, it is referred to the New Jersey Supreme Court. Misconduct complaints and investigation records are kept confidential unless a formal complaint is filed by the committee. A formal misconduct complaint is filed when probable cause for misconduct is found.[1]

Note: State judicial disciplinary agencies do not have appellate jurisdiction or authority over federal court judges and justices.

Organization

The committee is made up of nine members: two Justices or judges of the supreme court or superior court, no fewer than three lawyers and no more than four members of the public. All members are appointed by the supreme court for three-year terms.[2]
