Minnesota: Governor Mark Dayton recently announced the appointment of Elizabeth H. Strand as the new District Court Judge for the Minnesota Tenth Judicial District. Judge Strand will be replacing Judge Donald J. Venne when he retires at the end of the summer.[1]

The Minnesota Tenth Judicial District consists of the counties of Anoka, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Pine, Sherburne, Washington and Wright. Judge Strand's seat will be chambered in the city of Buffalo in Wright County.[1]

Governor Mark Dayton felt sure in his appointment of Judge Strand, saying, “I am confident Ms. Strand will be an excellent judge in the Tenth Judicial District. She has a long record of public service and community involvement that will serve her well on the bench.”[1]

Before becoming appointed to the bench, Judge Strand previously served as the Buffalo and Annandale Prosecuting Attorney, acting as the only provider of city prosecution services. She also maintained a private family law practice and before that served as the Assistant Public Defender for the Minnesota Tenth Judicial District. She was also an associate attorney with law firms Cundy & Martin, L.L.C. and the Beaulier Law Office. Judge Strand has also made a point to volunteer with the Wright County Free Law Clinic, providing legal services to those with low income, in addition to offering teaching services within the county of Wright.[1]

Judge Strand received her B.A. in Medical Ethics with distinction from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 1992, and in 1998 received her Juris Doctor from the William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul.[1]
