October 20th, 2011
Salt Lake City, Utah: Two new judges, as well as a new presiding judge have been named to the Utah Third Judicial District and the Utah Seventh Judicial District respectively.
Attorney Elizabeth A. Hruby-Mills will replace Utah Third Judicial District Judge Joseph C. Fratto, Jr., who is retiring effective December 16th, 2011. Attorney Ryan M. Harris is replacing Judge Glenn K. Iwasaki, who retired on September 30th, 2011.[1]
Senator Ross Romero commented on the attorneys-turned-judges, saying "They’re both stellar members of the Bar and great community participants."[2]
Judge Douglas B. Thomas replaced Judge George M. Harmond as the new presiding judge of the Utah Seventh Judicial District. Judge Douglas B. Thomas will be the presiding judge for a term of two years, with Judge Lyle R. Anderson taking the position of associate presiding judge.[3]
Presiding judges, as well as associate judges, are elected by a majority vote from the judges of their particular court. If a presiding judge were to be unavailable, an associate presiding judge will assume the presiding judge's responsibilities.[3]
