New Mexico Amendment 7 (1996)
New Mexico Amendment 7 authorizes counties to borrow money to buy real estate for open space and related purposes and to purchase equipment for road maintenance and construction. It was on the November 5, 1996 election ballot in New Mexico, where it passed with a very narrow margin.
Amendment 7 was a legislatively referred constitutional amendment amending the New Mexico Constitution. It was one of seven such measures on the 1996 ballot in the state. All of them passed. Amendment 7 passed with the smallest margin.
