The New Mexico Creation of State School Board Amendment was not on the ballot in New Mexico as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on November 8, 2024.[1]
The amendment would have repealed the section of the state constitution authorizing the Public Education Commission and replaced it with the State School Board to set policy and manage the distribution of funds.[1]

To put a legislatively referred constitutional amendment before voters, a simple majority vote is required in both the New Mexico State Senate and the New Mexico House of Representatives.
This amendment was introduced as Senate Joint Resolution 9 on January 18, 2024. On January 30, 2024, the state Senate passed SJR 9 in a vote of 36-1. The amendment did not receive a vote in the House before the legislature adjourned on February 15, 2024.[1]
