In the 2014 general election, 257 judicial candidates appeared on ballots across New Mexico. Of those, 184 were incumbents. Ninety-one judges faced contested races, while 80 ran unopposed and were assured another term. Additionally, 86 judges were subject to retention votes, with two not being retained.

Interesting races
- Albert Mitchell and Sheri Raphaelson were not retained by voters. In New Mexico, a candidate in a retention election must receive 57% of the vote to be retained. Raphaelson received 55.98% and Mitchell received 49.95%. Earlier in the year, the New Mexico Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission issued retention recommendations. The commission recommended that Raphaelson not be retained, while advising that Mitchell should be retained.

- J. Miles Hanisee, who was appointed to the New Mexico Court of Appeals in 2012, defeated challenger Kerry Kiernan for a full term on the court.
- There were a number of close races for the Bernalillo Metropolitan Courts (winners in bold):
- Division 14: Judge Peggy Ann Holguin (49.1%), Vidalia G. Chavez (50.9%)
- Division 4: Judge Chris J. Schultz (49.2%), Courtney Bryn Weaks (50.8%)
- Division 8: Jill M. Martinez (50.8%), Judge R. John Duran, II (49.2%)
- Incumbent Dick A. Van Dyk lost his seat on the Eddy County Magistrate Court to D'Ann Read.
