The Judicial Update

February 15, 2011

Wyoming: On Tuesday, February 1, Wyoming Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kite swore in Catherine E. Wilking as a new judge to the 7th Judicial District Court. Former Governor Dave Freudenthal, who appointed Wilking out of three possible candidates, said that part of why he chose her was that she transferred her focus from felony cases to juvenile cases while working for the Natrona County prosecutor's office. The former governor believed that this contributed to Wilking's desire to do something significant, rather than just, "status or wealth," because juvenile cases were, "not a premier assignment." Wilking replaces Judge Scott W. Skavdahl who stepped down from the district court to assume a full time magistrate judge post for the U.S. District Court of Wyoming.[1]
