The 16th Congressional District of New York held an election for the U.S. House of Representatives on November 4, 2014. Incumbent Rep. Eliot Engel (D) ran unopposed in the general election.

Voter registration: To vote in the federal primary, voters had to register by May 30, 2014. To vote in the state primary, voters had to register by August 15, 2014.[6]

Incumbent: Heading into the election the incumbent was Eliot Engel (D), who was first elected in 1988.
As of the 2010 redistricting cycle, New York's 16th Congressional District was located in the southeastern portion of the state and included parts of Bronx County and Westchester County.[7]

On September 9, 2014, the Republican-run House approved H.R. 644, a resolution criticizing President Barack Obama's act of exchanging five Guantanamo Bay prisoners for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.[9][10] The House voted 249-163 for resolution, with all Republicans and 22 Democrats supporting the bill. Fourteen Democrats and five Republicans did not vote on the resolution, while all other Democrats opposed its passage.[10] Engel did not vote on the resolution.[9][10]

On November 6, 2012, Eliot Engel (D) won re-election to the United States House. He ran in the 16th District due to redistricting in 2011. He defeated Joseph McLaughlin in the general election.
