The 25th Congressional District of New York held an election for the U.S. House of Representatives on November 4, 2014. Incumbent Rep. Louise Slaughter (D) defeated Mark Assini (R) in the general election.
Assini conceded to Slaughter eight days after the election.[4] With all precincts reporting, but before all absentee and affidavit ballots were counted, Slaughter had 93,053 votes to Assini's 92,471. According to two County Board of Elections commissioners, there were still around 2,000 affidavit ballots and 1,300 absentee ballots left to be counted. Assini said that he would not concede until all votes had been accounted for, saying, "In all fairness to the voters, you should let the votes be counted."[5] After many of the additional ballots were counted on November 12, Slaughter had 96,800 to to Assini's 95,931, and Assini called Slaughter to congratulate her on her victory.[4]
Prior to the election, publications such as The Cook Political Report, FairVote's Monopoly Politics and Sabato's Crystal Ball, all rated the race as solidly Democratic and non-competitive.[6][7][8]

|---|---|---|
Primary: A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. New York utilizes a closed primary process, in which the selection of a party's candidates in an election is limited to registered party members.[9][10]
For information about which offices are nominated via primary election, see this article.
Voter registration: To vote in the federal primary, voters had to register by May 30, 2014. To vote in the state primary, voters had to register by August 15, 2014.[11]

Incumbent: Heading into the election the incumbent was Louise Slaughter (D), who was first elected in 1986.
As of the 2010 redistricting cycle, New York's 25th Congressional District was located in the western portion of the state and included most of Monroe County.[12]
