New York Times Publishes Ballotpedia Series on Ballot Measures
The first op-ed of the planned three-part series ran on August 31, 2016.

Middleton, Wis. - August 31, 2016: This morning, the New York Times published an op-ed written by Ballotpedia’s Josh Altic, Ballot Measures Project Director, and Geoff Pallay, Editor-in-Chief. "Ballot Measures: American Direct Democracy at Work,” the first of a planned three-part series, focuses on the history of ballot measures.

As the go-to resource for all things politics, Ballotpedia has plenty of information to share on the topic of ballot measures. Ballotpedia has been covering them since 2007 and has compiled a complete database of state measures dating from 1900 to the present. The database includes comprehensive information on every ballot measure recorded, for every year, state, and topic in U.S. history. That’s well over 13,000 pages devoted to ballot measures.

Ballotpedia's op-ed appears on the New York Times website.

For many Americans, ballot measures are the unexpected paragraphs of strange text they find in the voting booth, tucked away at the end of the ballot. Ballotpedia is working to change that, and informing New York Times readers about these important issues that they get to decide on is a great leap in the right direction.

This is an amazing time to reach out to new readers to inform them about ballot measures. So far in 2016, 153 statewide ballot measures across 35 states have been certified for the ballot, and most of those will be decided during the November election. With help from Ballotpedia, those voters can be confident that they know what's on the ballot—even at the very bottom of the ballot—when they head to the voting booth.
