New leader named for Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission
August 31, 2012
Malvern, Arkansas: The Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission, a body that keeps tabs on the conduct of about 400 judges throughout the state, has a new chairman. Judge Chris Williams of the Arkansas 7th Judicial Circuit Court, who has been a member of the Commission for the past 11 years, was elected to serve as chairman and will hold the position until at least June 30, 2013.[1]
The Commission, meets once a quarter to hear complaints that have been made against judges from courts of all levels across the state, is made up of three judges, three lawyers, and three members of the public who are not part of the legal profession. When a complaint is made, it is investigated by alternate members of the Commission, who present their findings to the Commission. The Commission then makes recommendations for action based on whether the judge in question has violated the Arkansas Code of Judicial Conduct.[1]
Judge Williams was appointed to the Commission in May 2001 by the Arkansas Supreme Court. He was a district court judge for the City of Malvern from 1992 to 2002, when he was elected to the Seventh Circuit Court.[2]
