|- As Americans, we have only focused on what divides us. This has caused increased partisan divisions, and deadlock in nearly all levels of government. I'm running to help solve that problem, which is why my slogan is "Cherish Unity." We need to remember that all of us want NY to be a better place to live and raise a family, regardless of partisan affiliation. Let's put that aside and get to work!
- We need to increase funding to rural schools. Our small schools are chronically underfunded, and that means those students don't have the same opportunities as a student from a more affluent district. How can we expect every student to grow up and pursue the American dream if they aren't given the proper resources to be successful? I plan to level the playing field and ensure that everyone has a fighting chance and ample opportunity, regardless of where they grew up.
- Our farmers are struggling, and they need our help. In talking with farmers on the campaign trail, the common theme was that they were being crushed by property taxes. In doing research on the topic, I would like to try and implement elements of the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1933, which added an additional tax onto companies who buy raw materials for farms. In turn, this revenue can be used to give small farmers tax breaks. Farming is the backbone of our economy, and we do ourselves no favors by ignoring the issues farmers face.
