Campaign themes
2014
DeLand's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]
Education
- Excerpt: "Adequate funding for education in our state should be one of our top priorities and I am committed to working with all stakeholders in finding a means to achieving a reasonable solution. Our teachers are entrusted with preparing our children to be competitive and productive. We should provide them not only the tools and facilities they need to achieve their task, but also a competitive rate of pay to retain the quality teachers we have and to attract others. Our children are our future and are deserving of our investment. Education funding will be a top priority for me as your District 42 representative."
Clean Air
- Excerpt: "I don’t think it a stretch to assert that much of the Wasatch front has unhealthy air. Although clean air becomes more of an issue when temperature inversions trap pollutants making visible what we are breathing, on days where there is not an inversion pollutants are still continuously being emitted. Like anyone else, I do not want my children breathing in unhealthy air and I will work with anyone and everyone to develop common sense solutions to mitigate this health hazard."
Public Safety
- Excerpt: "Our families rely on the promise of safe neighborhoods and secure homes. As a retired police officer of twenty years, Nick DeLand is committed to working with law enforcement and all public safety officials to see to it that they have the tools necessary to keep our homes and families as safe as possible."
