Gambini's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Enabling Voters To call ourselves a beacon of democracy, we must allow our citizens to exercise their democratic rights with ease. Voters must be allowed to register the same day of a primary. To further enable voters, Nicholas supports bill S6604 which would create a single day of primaries for congressional, state, and local primaries. This legislation would save an estimated twenty-five million in taxpayers dollars each election cycle, while encouraging higher voter turnout. Wages Long Island is one of the most expensive places to live in the United States. We have families working weeks longer than fourty hours still living in poverty. A $9 minimum is simply not enough. I support Governor Cuomo's $15 minimum wage plan. The plan lays out how high expense areas, such as New York City, Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk, will adopt adopt a $15 minimum wage. It also has areas of a lower standard of living adopting a $12.50 minimum wage by 2020, with plans to allow the state to determine yearly increases until $15 is reached. Public Campaign Fund Matching When someone runs for office, they need to fundraise. Generally, most politicians will fundraise from various businesses and wealthy individuals who have the ability to donate large sums of money. The reliance upon these entities, who do not accurately represent the majority population, has the ability to skew a politician's allegiance. Rather than being indebted to average members of the community they serve, they are instead aligned with the interests of a wealthy minority. Environment Nicholas is an advocate for alternative energies and for the minimal development of Long Island's barely existent woodlands. A transition from non-renewable energy to clean, renewable energy is a necessity. The New York City Offshore Wind Project is an excellent starting point for creating a greener Long Island. The Offshore Wind Project is an initiative that would create a wind farm thirteen nautical miles off the Rockaway Peninsula. It would be designed for 350 mega watts (MW) of generation, with the ability to expand to 700 MW, making it the largest offshore wind project in the country. A 350 MW wind farm operating at only 40% would generate enough clean energy for about 112,000 homes To aid the average citizen, increases in tax credits for solar panels is advisable, making solar panels an easier, cheaper investment. Together we can create a cleaner, greener island. Rehabilitation of Drug Users The war on drugs attempted to address the problem of drug use as a criminal offense with little rehabilitation. As we all know, that hasn't worked. Modern research shows that an emphasis on rehabilitation leads to lower relapse rates, which would not only help our communities by lowering the numbers of drug users, but it would also lower taxes spent on prisons by keeping former non-violent drug users out once rehabilitated. Long Island has a heroin epidemic. DA Singas of Nassau county has proposed we charge heroin dealers with murder in an effort to dissuade them from continuing, but also to get them off the streets for longer periods of time. This is commenable, but does not solve the physchological problems associated with drug use. Long Island must lead the effort to rehabilitate drug users in an effort to restore them and their communities.[1] |
